In fact, I'm so engrossed in the story that I didn't even notice Noire—my Umbreon—sitting in the corner of the room, watching me with a look of curiosity in her deep, red eyes.
As I look up from my book, she gives me a quick chirp and starts trotting over to the couch with her bushy tail raised high in the air. She sits down in front of my feet, and gives me a quick prod with her front paw; I think she wants something from me. Normally, I wouldn't mind giving her some of the attention that she's clearly craving, but right now, I'm just a bit too preoccupied with reading. So, turning my focus back to the story in front of me, I try to ignore her as best as I can. It's a bit hard, though; as she starts snaking around my legs and nipping at my ankles, I finally have to snap back to reality.
"Oh come on, Noire! Can't you see that I'm reading?" I groan as I slam the book closed, and set it aside on the coffee table. "What do you want this time?"
With her tail swirling around in the air, she hops up onto the couch next to me, and then sits down on her haunches once more. Honestly, I can't stay mad at her like this—she's my partner after all, and the way she's staring into my eyes is just too cute to resist. I'll just play along with her for a little while longer, then hopefully she'll let me get back to my story.
