I think as people are realizing in this thread, a huge difference between this game and the actual cartridge games is that you have access to TMs and egg moves easily in cartridge games. I feel like if this game was a little bit more lenient with how it handed out at least TMs and the memory mushrooms, a lot more Pokémon would be viable. But considering how you're basically praying for rare drops and reliant on terrible level up moves esp on late game Pokémon, the Pokémon that become viable in this meta are completely different. I feel like everything that's been good for me so far has been shit with ridiculous level up learnsets or crazy signature abilities / moves. I feel like anything else has been pretty much garbage, including a lot of early Gen Pokemon from before Game Freak started making every new Pokemon "feel special."
