>>14154259I didn't box any starters until I reset my Yellow some time back and got rid of the rodent. But I did usually have some second True Bro of a pokemon besides the starter in any team, to make a sort of duo. Pikachu + Butterfree in my original Yellow file, Meganium and Umbreon in Crystal, and my all-time favourite Sceptile and Pelipper in Sapphire. God damn those guys rocked.
After that I've made an effort to raise an even team of six in every game, and in 5th gen it spread into something like 12 pokemon that I was constantly juggling in my team and replacing with new captures. The scaling exp system is my favourite new mechanic.
