I don't agree with it, but most of it makes sense. Dungeon crawlers are a pretty niche genre, so it's no surprise a general gamer who either A: isn't already a massive fan of Pokemon or B: likes roguelikes would find it boring. Doesn't help that the fans who get mad about this review are typically the ones who exclusively play PMD for plot instead of gameplay. Most of them don't even go for Level 1 dungeons, the ones that are closer to a real dungeon crawler, or all recruits, let alone play the non-Pokemon Mystery Dungeon entries. The only time I've seen people bother with optimization is when a Japanese player goes through the game. Because the people defending Sky hardly know about what makes it special as a GAME, none of the counterarguments are very compelling beyond "well you're a retard for hating the plot".
Sky's a fun, albeit unbalanced game, and it's a shame both the critics and Western fans alike don't look deeper into the game. I'd say the biggest argument to make against the review would be "there's no real strategy." A Destiny Tower run requires a lot of micromanagement and proper item usage, not to mention a whole lot of luck. That sort of thing definitely requires strategy, memorization and trial and error before mastering. Or Drifblim if you're a pussy
