I'll put more thoughts down about DP as a whole later, but on the finale, it struck me just how final it all seemed. There's no mention of Unova or any sort of inkling that Ash was going anywhere but home. I peaked ahead at BW's first episode, and they just explain that he's on a trip to Unova for Professor Oak. It's literally the same set up that they did for the sudden transition between XY and SM. When they talk about a soft reset, this is really it, isn't it? OS to AG and AG to DP were seamless transitions. Ash almost completely transforms behind the curtain of imagined time that occurs in between the DP finale and BW episode one.
Thankfully, Dawn got a lot of love from the anime staff over the years, so it's less bittersweet an ending than May's was. Piplup being sad made me sad. I love that little fucker. I'm glad he became a shillmon so many years later.
