This is the spiritual finale to the series. A brand new region, away from Japanese regions with 150 brand new Pokemon. You don't even get to use old pokemon until the post-game; which is like a celebration of how far the series had come.
One of the most kino endings of a game ever, where Ghetsis, the evil team leader of the region is actually the final boss instead of the champion.
Babby dialogue wasn't a thing yet, and some of the dialogue is actually thought-provoking.
Seasons. The region changes so much with seasons. No other pokemon game has such a diverse region because they're all stuck in one climate (snow - sinnoh), or just temperate.
Three rivals. Not baby's. Bianca and cheren both grow as characters, unlike the xy rivals. (remember the scene with bianca and her dad at nimbasa city)
And finally, as the (spiritual) end... this is the pokemon game that finally addresses the most-popular debate of all time... is pokemon battling a bad thing? Team plasma's whole arch is about the hypocrisy of trainers and the hypocrisy from within as they're all played for fools by ghetsis; even N.
So, yeah. Best generation ever. And a fitting (spiritual-end) to the Pokemon series.
