If you want a "dead franchise," look no further than YW4's sales this year. I bet it opens in Japan with fewer than Let's Go, despite more Switch owners in the country. Hell, Let's Go had a bigger first week opening in Japan than YW3 did in the country, and that was on the 3DS, and back when YW as a whole was still somewhat alive (2016).
