>>38598391It's definitely its fair share of work! If I can learn to do it though, then so can you anon.
As far as what not to do before, I would make sure that you're getting a minimum of 6+ hours of sleep, so you hit REM sleep in the first place, and I would avoid any antihistamines (think cold medicine).
I always had a really difficult time remembering dreams if I ever took any.
During the dream, it's quite important to not try and do too much at once, namely when you're new to it.
Focus on solidifying the dream and slowly experimenting with your newfound abilities. Feel free to ask your subconscious for help, it just might lend it. Mine did, anyway. YMMV
Above all else, you absolutely must have confidence that you are in control. If you say something, want to do something, you must believe it with the same conviction that breathing with bring air, or turning a door handle will open it.
This takes time to get used to, so start small, and work on simply convincing yourself you're in the dream and that the dream is real.
People tend to get the idea that lucid dreaming == dream you're in control of. In reality, lucid dreaming == a dream you're aware of while you're dreaming. If you don't work on control, you'll simply be taken for a ride by your dream/subconscious while unable to stop/control any of it.
This can be harmless fun or horrifying, depending on the dream/nightmare.
