Any time you limit something you are making the thread more niche and run the risk that it dies on page 10. Even /shw/ keeps dying because of lack of interest. There is also "vp plays" that it's just like 5 people posting their playthroughs. That would be better served with a discord in my opinion but they make it work. Like you said if you have different generations it can lead to genwar but there might not be enough interest otherwise.
Personally I love Gen 3 and could talk about it all day but I don't have anything in common with people playing spinoffs or romhacks so that limits my interest. My interests are limited to playing gens 1-7 so I wish there was a "Cartfag General" for anyone who wanted to discuss their progress, shiny hunts, personal challenges, and complain about cart prices.
At the end of the day nothing will be possible because there is no moderation on /vp/ so people will spam how much they don't like what you like.
I'm stuck playing another game right now but once I finish I can't wait to get back to gen 3 and I'll make a general even if I have to endlessly bump it myself.
