If someone were to accidently leave behind a pair of sunglasses on a table in a park, and that person was long gone by the time you + whoever else arrive, no one present has any fucking clue who the sunglasses belong to. It's perfectly normal English for someone to go:
>"Oh, someone left their sunglasses on the table by the fountain. Those should be put with the other lost-and-found items we have near the front gate. That way, they won't have to walk all the way out here to recover them."
