If we don't do that, then we can't assume things like iron having a liquid state it reaches between solid and gas, triangles having three sides, and basic fucking thermodynamics and physics even working at all unless someone explicitly tells you that's how it works.
Nobody but people doing highly experimental worldbuilding where the world being built this was was the central focus of the work would do this; you assume anything you aren't told functions differently functions similarly enough to our world in fiction as a broad rule of fiction.
