It's easy to claim that oneself had the hindsight to think correctly against common conception for superiority's sake.
Would it have been dumb to assume that Buzzwole would have high Attack, or Turtonator to have high Defense? No, of course not. Same thing here. People expected Decidueye to be fast because its design and theme fit the bill. Just because they were wrong doesn't mean that their thought process was at fault, the results just subverted expectations. If anything, thinking that Decidueye would've been anything but fast, or Incineroar anything but strong, or Primarina anything but a Special Attacker would've been the oddball guess.
