Alright, here I go.
So, I'm looking to get into competitive battling, but I have absolutely no idea where I should begin.
I recently picked up Pokémon Y and it's my first one since Gen II, so I've forgotten what little I knew about Pokémon back then. Considering I'm on a Pokémon related board, I figure you guys are pretty knowledgeable about the games.
I know there's a shitload of things I have to know beforehand, but I'd like some basic info to get me started.

I just picked up Pokémon Y today but I haven't started it yet. The last Pokémon game I've played is Crystal so I reckon that the series has changed quite a bit since then.

Hi everyone, I am a play tester for pokemon XY. I just wanted to share some info with you about the games. I can't say much but in light of some gym leaders being published on the website I feel I can give you some insight without spoiling the game.

In the games I am excited to tell you that unlike in games past where you get TMs from gym leaders, in X and Y you will receive key items from gym leaders that add a new depth of gameplay.

after beating Violet you will receive a camera. This allows you to take pictures as you travel around Kalow
Korrina will give you roller skates that increase your running speed
Grant loves bike riding and other sports, he will at first give you a mountain bike which is helpful for quickly moving around areas where your roller skates don't work.
Finally Clemont is going to build you the mega ring which is used for mega evolution. Even though Korrina understands mega stones, Clemont is the one that actaully allows you to finally mega evolve.

in the pokemon world there are stories of the fictional place called america, americans are big strong fighters that play by their own rules and make others play by their rules too. Imagine americans in the pokemon world being akin to fictional races like kryptonians or saiyans.
If there was an incredible athlete he might get the nickname "the super saiyan"
