>>41788322I'd say Overall it is a improvement for in-game usage in Galar at least, even discounting Obstagoon, the STAB to Dark moves more makes up for the weaknesses and and Obstagoon having 4x Weak to Fighting is actually almost a advantage since it tends to bait out the usually Physical Fighting Coverage from the AI, which means the enemy gets Sharply Lowered Defense and can then get nuked by either Double Edge or Nightslash/Throat Chop.
Even before Obstagoon they get a good chunk of Fighting moves so they can also deal with Team Yell G-Zigzagoons rather easily (You gonna outspeed due EVs even if delibirately keep levels the same or about )
Designwise both are cute, Obstagoon is a departure but it grew on me.
The TR and TM systems are VERY nice to both versions since it means you can get many coverage good moves fast and Galarian Ziggy cucks Thievul hard as early Dark-type because of the better movepool.
That said, Pick-Up isn't really as good as it used to be, but even that honestly just lessens the loss of it when it hits Obstagoon.
The loss of Belly Drum and Extreme Speed are the real loss, but i kinda like that since it gives both variants different play styles.
This is all in-game campaign stuff though, but really it isn't that often a "Route 1 Rat" line gets to be a late gets to be a late game Gymleader Ace.
