You've been retroactively erased from existence on earth, and teleported to your favorite Pokemon region, where you've been retconned into living a life, similar to your old one but happier, until the age of twelve. It is your birthday and you've decided to set out on a Pokemon adventure, but on the day you were set to leave, the alarm clock was broken and to your horror, each of the default starters have been taken! Luckily for you, the professor happens to have recently caught a young wild Pokemon that desperately needs an owner. Since you desperately need a Pokemon, it was given to you, and for better or worse, you're going to start your adventure together.
