Gym entrance would be to a large forest in the back of the town. Gym itself is a room puzzle to get to the back where you'd face the gym leader. Gym trainers are in multiple rooms and can challenge you to any of the 4 main battle types. After giving the badge and TM I offer to take you back to the beginning or you're free to go back on your own.
