As abysmal as this thread is going to be, I at least want to talk about a couple of thing gen one did right and what I would like to see in future Pokemon games; The first of those being level design.
I remember seeing a thread a couple of months back about level design and how it was shot down by anons saying places like mt. Moon, the Cinnabar Islands, and Mt. Ember are nothing but stupid block pushing puzzles that slow the game's pacing.
Well, I actually liked the optional dungeons in Gen 1.
Notice how I said OPTIONAL. I like the OPTION of going out of your way for extra goodies and TMs. No, I don't just want optional caves like SM, XY, and ORAS did; I wan't full on dungeons dude.
Fuck, I even kinda want the HMs back (Even though they should be replaceable like any other TM and not require a Move Deleter to get get them off your mons, even if it does make the Move Deleter's existence mute.)
I liked the idea of teaching your Pokemon moves to help you get across certain obstacles. Even if, with the exception of Surf and Strength, they were objective pretty bad moves with way better alternatives...
