When I was a kid I watched the anime regularly until around the middle of the Orange Islands arc, then started losing interest and school + broadcasting schedules made it harder to keep watching.
So, outside of a couple of random Johto/Advanced episodes that happened to air when I was watching TV, I never touched or cared about the anime again.
Still, reading about how he will not be there anymore is giving me a weird feeling. I guess my subconscious kinda considered Ash being the protagonist of the anime as some constant of the universe like the moon and the stars being there.
