Also as far as characters and animation goes I think BW has XY beat on both fronts.
XY has this weird 3D battle thing that makes the characters desync with the background and it looks really ugly. Also they spin the background to simulate movement all the goddamn time.
As for the characters this is by far in a way the least interesting Ash I've ever seen. Sure BW Ash was a retard but at least he was fun.
