>>18278997I wouldn't say that they nerfed hyper offense, they just changed the flow. Back in Gen V I did pretty well with a balanced team, with a compact defensive core, a few fast and painful attackers, etc..
I would run into many similarly mixed teams, and battles would then revolve around robbing the opponent's momentum.
There were also full stall teams whose Toxic, Leech Seed, etc. shenanigans Magic Guard Clefable would foil until I had an opportunity to break through their walls. And hyperoffensive teams, wheather or not, with fast but fickle fighters whom I needed to disable or knock out quickly before they could do too much damage.
With a similar team, I have a lot of trouble nowadays. Full stall is very rare these days, probably because attackers have gotten much bulkier (Conkeldurr, Rotom-W, Megamom, etc.) and hit much harder than sweepers of the past generation.
Though the most prominent attackers have become slower, they can maintain momentum through powerful priority moves, Volt Switch/U-Turn, and simply threatening to fuck your shit before you can KO them (or setting up and becoming unstoppable).
It's gotten more intense, leaving less windows of opportunity, and no longer allowing you to fool around a bit (outside of ubers).
