I feel nothing at the idea of having a magical creature bound to me by a magical ball. It's lost on me when I read it, and so I can't write about it either. I don't get it, I've played pokemon for the human characters and because fights are cool, but the intimacy between a trainer and their pokemon confuses me. How do you legitimately grow close to something that isn't a person? Is it because it acts cute? Or because it's useful? I can't see myself ever treating an animal like Ash treats his Pikachu, so I can't write a character like that authentically.
How do I fix this?
