I had some small experience a long time ago when I was a kid. From what I remember almost no trainer carries status moves that aren't sleep or paralysis, my main problem (and frustration) was commonly finding what looked like safe mons carrying a Dark type move for coverage, making using Shedinja really unpredictable. It's a bit like trying to use a Wobbuffet in the ingame, the thing is powerful in theory, but good luck having a prediction based mon work consistently against the retarded AI decisions.
It has been many years so I should probably give the whole line another go though; Nincada is my favorite pokemon.
