I do remember the show director's interview during Diamond & Pearl season about reason to held Ash to win tournament that otherwise he will be retired for being a champ. For me, that sound too dumb because we can still enjoy somewhat new season in other region even if Ash won the cup. Now, after decades we got a new champ and then boom...they still hold that "preference" and decide to retire him. Japs sure are very overconfident.
