I *actually* think working with 3d is a lot easier then drawing or painting once you understand how 3d works.
With 2d, you have to consider the lighting, the perspective, sharding, on top of the actual shape of the object. With 3d, you just make the objects, then you can move stuff around and deal with the shading and lighting after the fact on the fly
