In pic related, I marked the boundaries which are relevant to the travel of the SS Anne as well as gates through which the player passes through. Every time the player goes through these gates, the scale of the overworld unmistakably changes e.g. when the player goes through the gate to the SS Anne, the pier changes in size. The scale in this game is not absolute and is unreliable so the SS Anne can still realistically pass through what seems to be sharp angles in the overworld.
Furthermore, we take into account the fact that Cycling Road is based off a bridge and that the rocks are literally just game barriers (as is the case in the original games) then these obstacles to the player are not actually real obstacles to the SS Anne. The player is seeing the game world through his own perspective and does not see the world as it really is.
