>>37038869>>37038894All fair and well put, I agree with all of it. Don't have the games. In particular, there was nothing stopping Let's Go from following a couple of ORAS precedents and introducing newer Pokemon later (in keeping with Go's hitting Diamond/Pearl by time of release) and having Mew available as a Deoxys-style big event, thus potentially (and I could be overshooting) selling more Let's Go games as a Mew dispenser than actual Poke Ball Pluses. I am a little partial to the idea of Kanto in a vacuum for its own sake, but Game Freak didn't make that worthwhile.
What makes me laugh the most about these games, though, is how Masuda missed the point. Most of the millions who buy Pokemon games do it for that single player experience, or at the very least don't dig themselves so deep. And most of the changes made to the series over the decades have been either so periphery or so under-utilized in the story that that single player experience did not meaningfully change until the scripts started getting larger and Sun and Moon removed HMs and formal Gyms. Let's Go would not have been any less successful for keeping the additions of later games while still making a point not to overwhelm the player with minutia.
