The entire design logic of the franchise makes it uninteresting and the revisiting after other franchises do it better and more immersive finally show that the games have been nothing but 6s and 7s rather than 8s and 9s. The high points are indeed high and the world can be colorful when it wants, but it's always slacked and until other examples came along no one wanted to admit that the whole franchise is nothing but luck incarnate on how it got this far.
