Understandably they were on a limited budget and barely finished the game

They made the best of what they had with a bigger staff and budget on a limited console

At this point this was inexcusable, they had a tripple a budget yet they produced a lack luster games with lack luster graphics. Almost every other monster game at the time had animated graphics and more detailed overworlds. The nail in the coffin was the fact that Mystery dungeon had all of the pokemon with passable sprite animations as well as detailed environments ; yet the main series had abject crap on both the 2D end.
Tried gen 4 to give it one more shot, but it just sucked in comparison to the real rpgs.
Nowadays I look at the stories and hear about the new villains I want to give the series another shot. But I feel as though I am going to be let down again.
What do you think? Is pokemon lack luster?
