But I have little cousins that install a bunch of emulators on their smartphones and they do know the difference between a free game, an emulated game from an older console, and paid console games.
I also have friends that said they saw the same in their families.
We are talking about 8/9 yo kids.
So, I guess it depends on the kid, how spoiled they are.
But even if the kid doesn't know about money, if they have a 3DS or a switch, they probably can tell the quality difference between a mobile freemium game and a console one.
Kids would at least suspect that new switch games are not as readily available to them as much as free smartphone games. I mean, at that age you have to be grasping some difference between those products. And that is excluding the sheer power of a franchise like Pokemon.
