>>20932729Thanks for the advice. I had totally forgotten the well's shadow, which was a big mistake on my part. Without it there's nothing to indicate the well's height, and I guess I got so caught up in trying to avoid beginners' mistakes when foreshortening like symbol drawing based on the object's length I had created an entirely new problem.
The lighting was something I thought was the absolute weakest part, so I'm glad to here others approve of it. I can handle shading and lighting when I'm just practicing basic shapes and forms, but I struggle to keep a consistent light source in larger drawings like this because I end up doing a lot of micromanaging, isolating each object when I draw. Cast shadows are what I struggle with most, next to using different tonal ranges to capture different textures.
I'll be honest this was frustrating to draw, and a lot of stuff has been lately. I've thought about quitting a lot but I'm definitely not going to.
