I've never spent coins on incubators because storage was a higher priority, and raid passes are a better investment at the same price. Do I want to hatch an extra shitmon today, or catch a legendary pokemon? It's a no brainer, especially since the local scene has dried up and I had to make alt accounts to get anything done.
