>>25015339Yeah, I'd say it's more of a general curve of power with a few things that are unquestionably unviable (and those are basically just PSuika, PYukari, and EYuugi, and the last two of those aren't completely hopeless)
Compare that to how Smogon has Ubers, OU, UU, RU, NU, PU. and that's not even counting the several BLs (i.e. too broken for the tiers below them but still not good enough to see significant usage in the tiers above them), the one that got banned from Ubers for being too degenerate for that tier, or the stuff too garbage for PU. Things from lower tiers can and do see usage in higher tiers, but in specialized niches that don't afford them enough usage to qualify as actually being a part of that higher tier. Like for an extreme example, how Wobbuffet sits in PU and is completely unviable even there (the analysis is literally summed up as "it is the best death fodder in that it isn't set-up bait but otherwise cannot do anything meaningful at all") but is viable in Ubers since Shadow Tag isn't banned there and thus it can be a nightmare to deal with.
Like there's going to be a core of good stuff you'll want to use (i.e. OU), but very often the best thing for a team will come from something less known and used than usual. Maybe you end up using WriggleP over EllyP, even with how EllyP is generally better than WriggleP, because WriggleP is a better fit for your team.
Or just build around your waifu and you can easily make a perfectly good and viable team even if your waifu isn't top notch.
