My reason is just competitive. You can argue "but smogon!", but I actually enjoy VGC a fair lot and think doubles 4v4 has better potential than all of smogon's metagames put together. Singles would simply take forever on 3DS and that's why 6v6 will never be a thing, so I'm really eager to enjoy figuring out nice strategies and building good VGC teams.
I'm somewhat hype for raids as well, I HEAVILY doubt they will be good, but online functionalities are always good. What saved XY for me was the PSS, I spent days playing with my friends instantly without running to a Pokemon center every time, I would see they were online, we were both at the same gym, and we would regularly fight over and over throughout the adventure. XY without online are EASILY the worst games in the series for me, but the PSS memories I have of it are amazing. I hope SS can provide something similar as well.
Outside of that, I don't care about the dex cut. I was lucky that literally all of my bros except Claydol got in, but I don't mind losing them even if they wouldn't have made it in. I really enjoyed how BW's adventure basically forced me to play with new bros, and I'm sure I'll enjoy that in SS as well. I will 100% not use my favourite in my SS team, and will try new Pokemon to see how can they get me to like them.
Finally, the last reason, is that it will be a game I know will keep be busy for a long time, yet at the same time I can play it at my own pace. Just for 60 bucks I know I'll get around 200 hours in, something that a game like I dunno, Bayonetta 2, as amazing as it might be, I would probably drop it after 50 hours AT BEST. The postgame for me is and will always be the online, and I know for a fact that it will never die until the next game.
