How bout bottom four:
Gen 5, the original sinner. The region is a straight fucking line, the story constantly interrupts you. BW2 saves the gen by making Unova interesting, even if the on-rails story is just as obtrusive as ever.
Gen 8 has the world’s ugliest overworld map to the point of it being useless. While far from perfect, the Wild area and IoA at least bring back some exploration feeling that’s been missing since gen 5.
Gen 6 continues the trend of straight line region and frequent interruptions, but this time the story isn’t even trying to be good. Had some neat locations and the PSS was good.
Gen 7 is the worst. “Tropical tourist” is not the adventure vibe I need. Cutscenes are the worst they’ve ever been. What a mess.
