Of course it would be a mess to re-type all normal moves at this point, but I don't think the game benefits immensely from having the normal type in the first place.
How often do you end up with a normal type on your team in your run-through? How often do you give one of your pokémon a normal move?
Don't you always pick a type and move that is super effective against something to get good type coverage.
