>>38630413I don't play DOU but here's an example I found in ORAS. Forgive the bad teams.
In pic rel, the opponent has the momentum and the ascendancy in the current matchup with Heatran vs. Ferrothorn. The obvious switch for me is to go to Sp. Def SD Gliscor, which has a great matchup and with hazards up, does a lot of work vs. the opponents team. I've already scouted the Metagross set with some pivots using Gliscor and Ferrothorn, (Mash, Zen, Quake, SR)
A good opponent would read the obvious switch with a double to Specs Keldeo, which is also very dangerous in its given matchup and abuses the Gliscor switch. The problem with that is I could have Protect, which I could click to scout the Keldeo double, and then also whatever move it goes for. If I was crazy, I could also try and put my balls on the chopping block and click Power Whip (hitting Keldeo would basically auto win me the game).
Instead of any of those plays, which are linear and mediocre, I should switch to Latios, which covers any of his plays. It resists Lava Plume, should he make the "bad" play, and gets a great matchup vs. Keldeo on a "good" double switch play.
I made that play, and when my opponent switched to Keldeo, I got 18% chip on his only good Gliscor check and reversed the momentum in the space of one turn. Even if he Lava Plumed, I'm still in a good spot as long as I don't get burned.
The only play he could make to punish the Lati switch is to go to Metagross or a potential ScarfChomp, but neither of those are great switchins to Gliscor or Ferrothorn, so it's very unlikely he'll want to give much consideration to those plays.
