The fact that they framed it as a comic relief gag to the point where they started piling slapstick into the "serious" moments ruined what could have been much more interesting and, to put it bluntly, at least partially watchable. Instead, now we get a situation where they're trying to tell us "No wait, this is serious after all! Really!" and it's falling flat.
