so it's like... imagine if a pokemon was made to look like a sock monkey. It's honestly not a whole lot like a real monkey other than the tail. But its definitely still based on a monkey to an extent.

I think you get the idea. An object, traditionally made in the shape of a specific animal. And a pokemon, based on that animal-shaped object. So is still based on that animal, just with an extra degree of kevin bacon.
