I've been playing Pokemon games since Red/Blue and I honestly stopped caring around USUM. I didn't even know about first Pokemon Direct happening and got told about it by a friend, which is strange because I was always very immersed into pokemon news.
It's not a good solution and some people are still very invested in the franchise, hell, I thought I would never abandon it myself due to the sunk cost fallacy and so on but I guess it took one gen to finally move on. People should just realize that moving away from this series is pretty healthy, I recommend that. Not gonna lie, eventual D/P remakes could steal some of my attention but that is really the last interesting thing about Pokemon for me.
