A lot of better anime consist of ~24 episodes, sometimes less, sometimes more. If they're longer than that, then they're usually split into seasons or parts of ~12 or 24 episodes with an actual endgame in mind.
They know how to end story arcs and an overarching plot before they have to start scraping the bottom of the barrel to milk their fanbase. 1000 Episodes of Pokemon and it has had virtually no significance.
If Pokemon was as OP wishes, 20 episodes for each generation starring their respective protagonists, we could have actual storylines (not any of this "sudden big bad shows up for 3 episodes, time to save the world again!"), character development, continuity, and each season could actually end on a satisfying note other than "Wowww where will Ash go next??? He he catch THE Pokeman? Tuuune in next tiiime!!!"
