The easiest thing to point at is the level curve, but people can't seem to agree on whether it's too steep or too shallow. It's probably fucked both ways. Also the attack selection on enemy trainers/gym leaders - having two of literally the same Pokemon is quite bad.
Adding shit like frontloading all Johto Pokemon like it's a nu-Pokemon game is just pure cringe.
