The question I'm essentially asking is what it can POSSIBLY be, not what series tell me, I dont care for that. Because, if you actually imagine it as a hair, it becomes truly weird and uncanny. I guess partially this comes from the fact we dont know her exact head shape.
Being a leaf-like structure may be better as it can keep shape better.
