He's absolutely right though. Video games across the board don't need to be as difficult as they were before the internet because they no longer need that novelty. That's a fact, and new Pokemon games simply solve this by implementing a, "it's as hard as far as you want to take it" design philosophy. I prefer this desu. The games are easy and players are left with post game and competitive if they want more challenge. I think this is better because the core games are limited with what you can do regarding their difficulty. They were never that hard, and they could make them more hard but to do so they would have to make them into the likes of other jrpgs, but such mechanics would not fare well with their extremely casual playerbase, and that would be very bad considering all the competition for casual gamers today.
OP, you and other oldfags need to simply adapt and learn to look for challenge if you still want it in the games. Pokemon is never going back to old gameplay again, ever. And yes, ORAS sold incredibly well and was enjoyed by most for it's QoL and design changes which you seem to not appreciate.
