Do you want to:
>play pvp?>collect mons/fill dex?>just get rare mons (shinies, region exclusives, movesets, etc)?>get mons to trade?>level fast/catch up?>to get mons to send to HOME?>get your favorites?>play casually?>max every event no matter what?>spend money/not spend money?etc.
Outside of that, the only tip you should really know is FUCKING PLAN. Whenever an event is coming up, you should know at least what all is going to happen in it and have an idea of how its going to go for you. Planning doesn't just apply to events too, but stuff like
>best area to spin stops for you>best area to raid chain for you>best area for concentrated spawns for you>best way to hatch eggs>what big exp do you have coming so you can pop an egg and claim it all at once.
