What really happened is that shills spammed Metacritic threads for months, which led to lots of /vp/ users making accounts and posting their opinions there.
In other words, /vp/ always hated new gens but didn't care about Metacritic. Because of shills, we had daily Metacritic threads, leading to /vp/ skewing Metacritic scores as a whole.
