They can't grasp the concept of the franchise improving in any fashion because they can't comprehend the idea that the franchise -can- improve - in their minds, it's Pokemon, and that translate to literal perfection.
Until you remove Pikachu and Charizard, in which they get their torches and pitchforks because they feel they were betrayed by Pokemon.
