So... we've had a few really comfy Orre/Genious Seniority threads these past few days. And I was wondering if I just do it as a really heavily disclaimered learning exercise/portfolio project, and create all my own assets and code from scratch, would a fangame with zero revenue or advertising of any kind be okay to share? Or is that still gonna get me ninja'd if it travels beyond my personal sneaker-net?
I don't have much yet, not even a working rendering engine, but here's a very rough 1st draft for a dungeon I was gonna add to Orre, possibly to connect up the Under with the cave pokespot. White is B1, green is B2, blue is the main entrance point, red is slopes/ladders/ect connecting the two floors. My goal is to make the kind of crazy cave system with tunnels and rooms that may have been carved by people or pokemon back in ancient times before getting flooded and collapsing in places at some point. Basically a giant inter-connected maze for players to get lost in and explore for a while. The idea is to put a ton of trainers and wild pokemon in there and almost every path to lead to something of value be it an item or an interesting carving depicting a bit of lore.
When the entire project is done it'll have some plot significant things take place there and some gen 1 kanto birds/gen 3 hoenn golems sort of puzzle leading to a hidden legendary. Total timeline is probably gonna be at least 3 years but I hope to having something resembling a playable demo in about 6 months. It's been a very long time since I've done any game-dev and everything I know is several years out of date. But the good news is if I don't have time to learn modern directx or vulcan or something then it'll run on almost anyone's potato laptop!
