All of it seems like the self-aggrandizing hubris of human civilization, and the Pokemon, being Pokemon, picked up on it. It's like what Elm (or one of his aids) said about Silver. A Pokemon will become evil if raised by an evil person. They are impressionable and pure in that sense.
Also, I hope calling Generation 5's story shit did not offend you or elicit this response, because I still like the Gen as a whole.
