the episode and the interaction between Ash and Misty was great because he was responsible for the episode. This episode is basically a continuation of episode 002 of the anime (one of my favorites).
when he is in charge, things work out that way (like in the Alola episode, which Ash also acted in a similar way), but when it is another writer, the interaction between them is dull (some in AG shows this).
