>>45490183I'm not talking of the way antique blackface portrayed them with extremely exaggerated features, I'm talking about portraying them as they are. The truth is black people do have by standard wide noses and big lips, same with textured hair and other features. Are they ALL like that? No, but the vast majority are, just like how the vast majority of latina girls are busty with wide hips and on the short side, or asians have slanted eyes, or indians long, dark, straight hair, etc. It's all just common traits, by not wanting to see themselves reflected they're pretty much wanting to erase themselves, it's like they're embarrassed of who they are when that's what they look like. Is how they were born "racist"? Do they think it's racist whenever they look in a mirror? I never really understood the concept of internalized racism but I think this pretty much must be it. As long as you're tasteful in your characterization and art, and again, don't exaggerate it to a point where you're making a caricature out of a person's features out of malice, you can remain faithful and create beautiful art and characters that depict the person as they truly are, and I think that's true beauty and representation, not a generic anime girl with a brown filter.
